Commodore’s Corner
Greetings to all South Norwalk Boat Club Captains. After a winter that saw more snow than I can remember in a long time, I am happy to report that the unofficial start of our summer season has finally arrived. The marina opens today! With the opening of the marina, we can only hope that the weather has finally turned for good. We will soon begin the launching of boats and setting up the Club for what we can all hope will be a great summer. I for one am very much looking forward to sitting on the deck, having a nice dinner and looking out at our great Club. While we all enjoy what the SNBC has to offer throughout the winter, I know summertime is what we look forward to.
Now that the change in season is arriving, we can all start planning and scheduling our summer events. The first big event will be the Commodore’s Dance on May 16th. The evening will start with a cocktail hour outside followed by dinner and dancing. Tickets are available now so make sure to get yours before they sell out. Tuesday Night Cookouts will also be back. Our first one of the year will be held on May 19th and will continue throughout the summer. Each cookout will have a different special dinner item so there will always be something new to try. Our next big event is one I am sure everyone is looking forward to, Commissioning Day Weekend. The festivities will start on June 5th with the Clam Bake. After the overwhelming success of the last Clam Bake, I am sure that everyone is excited about this one. There will be another great meal served by our fantastic volunteers before we move on to our evening’s entertainment and socializing. The weekend concludes on June 7th with our annual Commissioning Day ceremony. We will be blessing our fleet, honoring our departed Captains and awarding scholarships to the next generation of SNBC members. After the ceremony is complete, we will be having our Commissioning Day picnic with entertainment. More information on both events will be coming soon. Don’t forget, if you are interested in applying for a scholarship for your son or daughter, all applications must be returned to the Club no later than April 20th. With the warm weather returning, we can also look forward to outdoor entertainment. There will be a great summertime lineup to enjoy after spending the days boating on Long Island Sound.
While we are all looking forward to being in the sun, there are still many events happening throughout the month of April. Breakfast with the Easter Bunny will be on April 4th. Disco Night will also be on April 4th in the back room and it is open to all. There will be a special Easter Sunday menu for the holiday. You can make reservations at the bar. Country Night will also be on April 21st. Tickets are available now. Bands are scheduled for April 10th and April 17th. There is always something happening for you to get the best of what SNBC has to offer. With the summer season kicking off, it will only get better from here. Thank you all and see you around the Club.
Best Regards to Everyone,
Jonathan Bove, Commodore
