Commodore’s Corner

Greetings to all South Norwalk Boat Club Captains.  Summer is now in full swing and the weather for the most part has been great.  The sun has been shining, and the rain showers have been few and far between.  Now if we could just get the wind to calm down, we would be all set.  We had a great Commissioning Weekend, and I cannot thank all the volunteers enough.  Between Calm Bake and Commissioning Day, this group spent countless hours preparing and served around 600 people over the two days.  It is such an incredible thing to see so many people give up their time for the betterment of our Club.  That is what makes us the best around.  Everyone working together to accomplish what needs to be done for the enjoyment of all our members.

This Saturday we will join the rest of the country in celebrating America’s 250th birthday.  I’m sure everyone will have a busy weekend with boating and BBQing, but we will start things off on Friday July 3rd with fireworks at the Club.  It is always a well-attended event, but with this being the 250th, I have a feeling it will be even bigger this year.  The kitchen will be open for food and Zully Ramos and the OGs will be performing from 8:00-11:00.  I hope everyone can come down to start the big holiday weekend with your fellow Captains.  Then we will have Kismit performing on July 5th from 5:30-8:30. The perfect way to end a great celebration.  July will also have other great Club events to look forward to.  The Montauk Fishing Tournament will be held July 16-18 at Snug Harbor Marina.  A good time for our fellow anglers so if you love to fish make sure you put it on your calendar.  We will also see our first Club rendezvous of the year on July 24-26 at Strong’s Water Club Marina on Long Island.  It is always nice to get out of town for a few days by boat and have some fun.  There will also be two cookouts in July, on the 7th and the 21st.  Rain or shine, the cookouts have been very well attended this year, and I want to thank the volunteers who have made that possible.  If you have not attended one yet, make sure you do before the season is over.

With everyone’s busy schedules throughout the summer, your Club is always here to provide some relaxing relief.  With a packed weekend entertainment schedule, outdoor dining on the water or coming down to enjoy a drink on the deck with friends, there is no better place to be.  We all wish for summer during those cold winter months, so we need to take full advantage while it is here.  Myself and the rest of your Board are always here so please reach out with anything you may need.  Happy 4th of July to you all and see you around the Club.

Best Regards to Everyone,

Jonathan Bove, Commodore
